The non-profit KINDH, Kids in Need During the Holidays, was started in 2000 by a parent from the PES community. Since its inception, KINDH has helped to coordinate the wrapping and donation of holiday gifts and grocery cards for more than 3,000 families in Montgomery County and NoVa. The annual KINDH gift drive has been so successful, it has received press in The Washington Post and the CBS Evening News.
Every year, the PTA works with KINDH to make sure the most vulnerable families at our sister school, Highland Elementary, are taken care of during the holidays. There are many ways that you can help families in our community. We know our PES families are incredibly generous, but also incredibly overwhelmed, so the PTA is trying to make this holiday giving as easy as possible. Please consider giving in one of the following ways:
Shop
Choose a wish list item from the Sign-Up Genius and purchase it. (**Please note the list is several pages long on a phone. You may need to view on a laptop or keep scrolling!) You can choose to purchase this item and drop it off at the school or to have this item sent directly to the KINDH organizer at the following address: Tamara Greenspan, 11347 Palatine Drive, Potomac, MD 20854. If you choose to have the item shipped directly, please make a note on the gift message of the Family # and name. If you are signing up to purchase a grocery store gift card, please consider buying it here.
Drop
Drop off any labeled purchased items at PES by December 12th. All gifts can be placed in a collection box IN THE FRONT LOBBY beginning in December. Make sure the item you purchased is labeled with the family’s number and child name. KINDH will also accept any new, unwrapped clothing or toys if you are cleaning out your house and have items. Please free to label these items just with “Donation” and also put it in the box.
Donate
If you’d like to avoid shopping altogether, you can donate to the KINDH organization directly, making sure you note “Highland Elementary” in the special instructions. You can also just choose to purchase grocery store gift cards which will also be distributed to families here. Our PES Community did a great job rallying around the Highland ES family at Thanksgiving and has already donated many grocery store gift cards to families in need. We hope to do the same this December!
