Frequently Asked Questions

You’re Not The Only One….

You probably don’t know enough to ask questions, so here are some notes on what happens during the year. We invite your questions.

Communication

The PES PTA publishes a weekly newsletter independent of the school’s communication, but it makes every effort to make it inclusive of as much PES and MCPS info as possible. It is a great resource that goes out every Monday morning.

We do a Book Fair every fall for a week. We set the gym up to look like a book store, and kids come to shop during class and make a wish list one time and come back with money if they wish to purchase a second time. There are several times during the fair when parents can come shop, and they are welcome to volunteer all week. This is a great way to dip your toe into volunteering and to meet people.

Donuts with Grownups

Every year, on the last day of the book fair, we set up coffee and donuts in the APR and kids can come have a sweet treat with a parent or someone special while book shopping. It is for an hour before school starts.

Principal’s Coffees

Several times a year, the Principal has in-person coffees with groups of parents who are interested in learning about things happening during the year. This is a great way to get face time with staff and to meet parents. PTA newsletters advertise dates, subject matter and RSVPs well in advance. These are usually in-person at school, mid-morning.

Halloween

PES has classroom Halloween parties planned by room parents. Students bring a costume they can change into at school and there is a school wide parade in the afternoon. Parents are invited to watch and then go to classrooms to assist with parties and games. Teachers and room parents usually reach out with details in mid October.

Grandparents’ Day

A breakfast similar to Donuts with Grownups takes place the week of Thanksgiving. Grandparents and special people are invited to come have some coffee and treats with the kiddos. All are welcome, even if you don’t have a grandparent.
