4/5- Peace Parade

PES Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee

Save the date – The PES Education Foundation and the PTA DEI committee invite you to join us for a Potomac Elementary School Peace Parade, April 5th at 2:30 pm. The parade is an opportunity for students, staff, and the community to come together and demonstrate their commitment to creating a kind, responsible, and peaceful environment. During the peace parade, students will create a unique Peace art display and celebrate the unveiling of the school’s Peace Garden. Parents can begin to gather at 2:30 pm and the parade will start promptly at 3pm. We will need parent volunteers to distribute artwork and help lead classes in the parade. If you would like to volunteer, please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0F4FAAAC2EA7FF2-48703884-peace#/.

About Us:

There is a new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee at Potomac Elementary School. The DEI Committee will expand the traditional NAACP role to address and advance the unique diversity, equity and inclusion work necessary in the PES community, to ensure that each PES student reaches their full potential, through:

  • Providing resources & support for parents and students
  • Cultivating and exploring best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Creating a community of support and inclusion

This year the DEI Committee activities will include:

  • Crucial conversations support – how to talk about race and other challenging topics with your child
  • Social and Emotional Support for students – how to teach and model self regulation and manage emotions
  • Neurodiversity – how to support students and parents with special needs
  • Inclusive community – anti bullying resources and supporting kids to be inclusive
  • Internet safety – how to keep your kids internet use safe

Committee meetings and programming will generally alternate between bimonthly resource and capacity building workshops and informal parent committee meetings.

This committee needs volunteers! If you are interested in participating in committee events or learning more, please email: deliciapes2628@gmail.com
